Pilates

“Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.  -Joseph Pilates

The Sense of Motion approach to Pilates first connects the student with their kinesthetic awareness through the breath, activation of core musculature, and identifying proper origins for movement versus the patterns our bodies have developed. Once awareness of correct movement is established, students progress into advanced exercises and variations specific to the individual’s physical needs, activities and abilities. As a result, posture is corrected, muscle exertion is balanced, movement becomes increasingly easeful and efficient, and the spine is relieved of undue pressure and effort.

Bex Burton has three decades of movement training, with an upbringing in dance, twelve years of Pilates study, two certifications in the Method (Full Apparatus with Fitness Guru /formerly Half Moon, and Basic through Advanced Mat and Variations with Steele Pilates), hands-on clinical anatomy training (FAMI), and 6 years teaching experience. Burton holds a faculty position at Dance New Amsterdam, is a Senior Teacher at Bluming Studio in Williamsburg, and is available for private studio or in-home training.
